Jul. 28th, 2006 10:04 amI'm off to Point of Hope, a little over two days volunteering to cook and clean up for 46 grieving kids between the ages of 7 and 16. What is it about that age group that scares me? Oh yeah, they're needy! And I ask myself again, 'why do I do things like this?' Caroline. . . .
This year Hospice is holding the event at a place in Middleburg, Va: Camp Highroad, Christian Adventure camp. For whatever reason, I can't ever read that without thinking of the Crusades. I have no access to intarweb, etc. I'll bring some books; some to read and some blank, and something to draw with (

Date: 2006-07-28 08:40 pm (UTC)Still close enough to DC to be imaged in high resolution through Google Earth. Looks like a nice place. I wonder what the light pollution is like. Could there possibly be StarShine?
Looking through the website, it looks like they don't even want people to have cellphones. Campers' phones are confiscated upon arrival, although I doubt they'll go so far as to appropriate yours.
Nothing in the website about internet access, but I'll make a solid wager that they've got one or more open wireless nodes, especially about those lodges. All in all though, the place looks a little too activity prone for computers.
Looks like a nice place Deanski. Looks like a lot of fun. Nothing like a little room to stretch out to soothe the soul.
Kumbayah!
