Does anyone else out there in LJ cyberland remember the gas crunch of 1974, or am I the only old-schooler out here?

I remember that if your license plate ended in an odd number you were allowed to buy gas on 3 certain days of the week, such as Monday-Wednesday-Friday, and if your tag ended in an even number your days were Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday (no one bought gas on Sundays) and my folks had to wait in lines that were blocks and hours long. I think that made quite an impression on me as a child. If anyone out there ever wonders why I'm so rabid about conservation and sustainability: Wonder no more!

This was the early psychic-injury which demonstrated to me that the world was not what I thought it was, and so I made a conscious decision to be a different way; I decided that I could never allow myself to become dependent on technology. In effect, that child still makes decisions for me today.

Even so, that 'crisis' was an economic scam. Every civilization in human history has collapsed at such point where they have run out of room to expand and/or used up their resources for energy.

People are like cars on the very same highway. . .

We've all the same basic origin and the same basic destination, although the details vary. We compete for position, but basically we get along. And every time you look over into the car next to you, regardless of who it is, you see in that driver yourself as the living embodiment of the choices that you never made.
