To stimulate the economy money needs to flow. After all, it is called currency.

for money to flow there need to be transactions. . . lots of them

to create a lot of transactions there needs to be demand

behind every demand there is some kind of appetite

marijuana stimulates the appetite

imagine being afraid of a plant

legalize cannabis now

Why is it that among skyrocketing gas prices, skyrocketing food prices, and general economic disarray, and despite a multi-billion dollar concerted effort to eradicate the trade imprisoning in the process more people than have ever been incarcerated in the history of humanity, pot still costs pretty much the same as it did in 1988?

For that matter, how can it be a schedule one drug (with no known medical use) when it has been legalized in some states for medical use and is specifically indicated in the treatment of certain diseases (like glaucoma)?

Most importantly, how can these rather glaring facts escape the notice of journalism in general?

thing is, marijuana legalization advocates say this over and over and over and over again... journalists don't feel a need to cover it because it just isn't news unless you work for High Times.

Imprisoning people for it is part of the business, and that part is centralized, a monopoly of "justice" run by the federal government.

Or maybe because there's more than one economy?. . .

One one hand we have the common global economy that is governed by the transactions of various commodities and services, and are loosely regulated by the laws of the national governments, which are actually nothing more than slight variations on the very same government where some things are allowed and others are not. . . Your's and my economy.

Then there's the other economy(s) which are totally unregulated except by the whims an ambitions of a very few, very elite, and very dangerous individuals and families (cartels) where absolutely anything goes, goods and services including drugs of any and all kinds, prostitution and slavery, technology, weapons of any and all kinds (not excluding chemical and biological), with the common global economy being subject to these "others". One economy supplies the vices, while the other is busy going bankrupt trying to impose a completely artificial standard known as law and order. It only works when everyone plays by the same rules.

Kinda the same concept that Congress can't be counted on to rectify the health care system in the U.S. because none of the individuals who serve there are personally affected by it.

Huh.. So reclassifying pot from Schedule 1 to schedule 2 should be an open-and-shut case. After all, no one can disagree that the pretense is there.

However, doing so would de-criminalize it, making it a lot harder to hit some poor harmless schlub with a multi-year felony for simple posession.

You would think that millions of people's lives being destroyed under arguably false pretenses would make for a compelling story.

I think we need some new journalists. These old ones are getting jaded and stale.

I've always see it as prohibition all over again, except without the constitutional amendment, and writ large.

I won't comment on the so-called "prison-industrial complex", but I will say that fear of the drug is based in persistent, willful ignorance.

Today we can look back at people like Harry Anslinger, and propaganda movies like "Reefer Madness" and chuckle, but there are people to this day that hold those precepts close and true.

I won't say who, just that this group is well known for their affinity for willful ignorance.

I think that there is a lot of fear amoung journalists on this issue, especially under this administration. Since proabably a majority of them light up from time to time, who wants to be subject to extra scruniny.

No two people can agree on everything, it's why we have politics to begin with. . . there is no one right way to live.

My little piece of polish "high-coup" up top isn't even so much about marijuana as it is about cannabis (being raw material for fiber, fuel, and food!) But the bastards will bastardize. . .
