This is a picture of the new place very shortly before we and our faithful friends filled it full of boxes (of alliteration). On the far right is [livejournal.com profile] mountainfreak vanishing into the moment just before I snapped the shutter, where he wasn't standing at the time!

The wonky angles are due to the stitching software and don't exists as such in the 3rd dimension.

not a true fireplace, though. seems the going rage across the country is to put a gas faky into the fireplace, which is what has been done here. at my old house in colorado, the system was so innefficient that the fireplace would blow all the hot air up the chimney, sucking cold air through any available crack. when cory ran the thing, his electric bill went up. and considering gas is stupid expenisve, he just sealed off the fireplace with plastic then tracked down all his cold air leaks and cut his electric bill in half, and nearly eliminated the gas bill.

Honey, it's cold . .

"Could you turn the fire up?"

Eh. . . It's one of those gas imposters. And what's even weirder is the fact that they run gas all the way out there to Fairfax for that and then install an electric stove. Go ahead, WTF?!

The heat is gas, too, though.

So is the water heater. Actually, the water heater heats the forced air for heat. They didn't tell me when I moved in so I figured I should pass this on... there are 2 handles on pipes on top of the water heater. One direction forces the air through for heat. The other does not so you have AC. I will have to verify which direction is what when I get home.

Yeah, I heard the burner kick on the other day and Dean asked if that was the heat, and I checked that our thermostat wasn't set for that and thought it might be the water heater.
