Bumped into Moria at the zoo yesterday (go figure!) I almost didn't recognise her, except for the ink I'd have just walked right by her. Happy birthday, Mo!

I was thinking of stopping by to pick up lil' D on the way to the metro but we slept in and were meeting folks there who were all on different schedules. Due the heat no one was up for staying too long. It didn't take the kids much time at all to get hot and cranky, so maybe it's just as well.

Whether she meant it as such or not,

st_theodora paid me the neatest compliment. She said I'm destined to become one of those hokey old grandpa-types with the corney jokes, and the checkered shorts and black socks hiked up to my knees. Y'know, that could happen. I've only developed that sense of humor in the last 6 years, or so; since I've taken my place somewhere in the middle of my geneology (rather than dead-fucking-last like I'd planned). I think I adopted it in response to my own personal 'fall', to reconcile the death of my old self, the disintrigration of my own childish self-centric outlook. It's reassuring to think that the days I came back here for might still be ahead of me, yet unrealised rather than cemented in place in the dead frozen past.

Now, all I have to do is learn how to pull a quarter out of kid's ear. Does anyone out there know that trick?
