Thin Places
Sep. 5th, 2005 09:44 pmWithout making a big deal of it, I warned D that this is a difficult hike; this is where 'big people' hike, and it's very easy to injure ourselves with the misplaced foot or succumb to exhaustion with miles of arduous trail between where we may lose heart and the place we leave the car. Even before we took the first step I asked her if she had to be anywhere important, because this hike wasn't about 'getting anywhere'. It was about being here in the moment constantly, so we couldn't have anything more important hanging over our heads. I asked her if she had homework pending?. . . . 'no', friends waiting for her to return? . . . 'nope', church? . . . .'Dad, you need to be in church and learn about God'.
What I told her was that for me places this special were my church because this is where I feel closest to God.
