ADD can be one hell of a frustrating mallady, especially when you don't have ADD! But in this office it's highly contagious - I get it from my co-workers, along with a whole shitload of eentzey-teentzey, little tasks that all have to be done-right-fucking-now-before-the-whole-world-ends-already (FUck!). And trying to get anything done is just pissin' me off. This is also contagious - yes, a very communicable mood-borne pathogen.
Huh, what? where'd that come from? It's okay. . . everything's gonna be fine. Work hard if you feel you must, screw off if you want to. Relax, smile and be happy . . .Go with that! Just don't expect to get anything done. . .

Resistance is futile!

Sam has ADHD. He takes Adderall. My job is like that too. Have a nice day planned out, la la la, oh whoops now I have 20 things to do that have to be done YESTERDAY!

prioritizing on the basis of emotional needs makes any job difficult. I do the same thing in my office because everyone needs something ASAP and the squeeky wheel gets the grease... particularly if tears, anger, or repetitive email/phone calling is involved.

it's so, so hard to prioritize your own workload & then assert these priorities with people who are clamoring... particularly if you're a compassionate person...

let me know if you come up with any coping mechanisms! LOL. In my office, we just ignore phone calls/emails until we're ready to deal with them! heh.

Compassion . . . that kinda sums it up there.

Forgive in the moment what doesn't kill you. Take nothing personally. Maintain your humor even while losing your mind.

I've been putting in lots of overtime lately, so I save all the return calls I have to make for late evening when everyone else is gone so no one has to listen to all my incongruous uh's and uhm's while I gather my thoughts to shield me from the adversity. I hate the the telephone! 9 outta 10 people I call are grieivng the loss of a loved one and are turbo-pissed because I've managed to misinterpret some poorly expressed, bizarre and complex family dynamic, and sent out mail accordingly.
"How could anyone be so insensitive?! That's not my mother, she was just some floosey he shacked up with before he died!!!"

"Oh, my god. My apologies, ma'am . . . uh, yes, I gather by the record they were, uhm . . . . close. I'm very sorry. . . about the notification, that is."

your job sounds exceedingly complex and emotionally challenging. it sounds like they needed you, though. that's pretty cool - to be that useful to an organization.

sounds like you could use a course in grief counseling, though! ouch. even a Master's! do you notify people of deaths or something? wow

For some reason, whenever someone on site gets promoted to our corporate office, they forget the first 6 days of the month are horrendously busy. Then they start dishing out extra work, which is of course, due during the first 6 days.

Hey, we know you're busy, but let's just make sure we drive you thoroughly insane. If I haven't done my bad debts in the past 6 months, do they really think I'm going to get them done this week?

It seems that they are trying to set people up to fail or quit. Lord knows, it's working.
