. . . are used to determine how many tabs your co-workers put in your coffee test the level of stress a person can handle.
The slower the pictures move, the better your ability of handling stress.
Alleged criminals that were tested see them spinning around madly.
However, senior citizens and kids see them standing still.
None of these images are animated - they are perfectly still.

Top one is pretty still
Middle one is doing a slow wave.
bottom one, whil enot whorling, is moving a bit.

Veerrryy eeeenterestink.

I've seen the almond-looking one before. It looks like it's moving unless I focus on it (have to focus HARD to keep the edges from sneakily moving while I look at the center). The middle one barely moves, and I can stop it by focusing. The top one wiggles a bit even when I focus, but it's all pretty slow.

they are all moving slowly for me, but the bottom one goes faster the less directly i look at it.
