the last time i rode a bike within dc's city limits, i somehow got away with riding my bike down the stairs of the national capital. no doubt, if i ever try that again the post 9/11 world, i'd be shot on sight.

Or, rather, you'd be held indefinitely as an "enemy combatant", and bicycles would be deemed un-american for their use as weapons against the homeland. You dirty muslim. . .
